Ron Kiino: Welcome back to round two of our Eight-Car Bang for Your Buck comparison test. We are out here, at Willow Spring Raceway in Rosamond, California. Here, we are going to hot-lap and push each car to their limits. Let's go see how they do.

At the track at lap 5, pretty much what we expected, with the high powered speed3 at 62.7 seconds. The WRX at 62.1 seconds, finishing in the front of the pack and fourth most powerful Cobalt SS at 61.7 seconds finishing first, hence with excellent sport tuned suspension, Brembo front brakes and a flexible 2 liter turbo engine. The Cobalt at the top slot did surprise us, after all it holds a lap record for front-drive cars at Germany's Nurburgring. We were surprised however with the Civic Si, is last place finish, a time of 64.9 seconds which can be blamed on it's lowest in test 139 ft/lb torque, expect to translates to less point power when in turns.
None the less it offers one of the best and most capable chassis. Thought the GTI at 63.1 seconds and the Rally Art at 63 seconds finish mid pack, evidence of a powerful two liter engines, seamless, dual clutch gear boxes and forgiving suspensions. Bringing up the back at pack with the Mini Clubman S, at 64.1 seconds at sixth place and the Dodge Caliber SRT4 at 64.4 seconds at seventh. The Mini was the worst weight to power ratio, it all sets that, the firm, sportiest, offering quick reflexes and lots of grip.
Conversely, the SRT4 posted the best weight to power ration, finish behind the Mini, it was all of it's high center of gravity, excessive body motion. So after round two it looks like two, it looks like top honors goes to the Chevy Cobalt SS. Not only it was the quickest around the track, it was also one of the most fun to drive. And as we know, most consumers, don't drive these cars at the track, they drive in the real world. So that's where we are going next for our third and final round of this eight car 02:26 or bi-comparison test. Stay tuned.
