Hey what’s up guys Walt Rebeiro here and I got a lot of questions about staccato and legato and just normal notes.
So with that, this work, is that staccato is actually referring to the note being short. So if I were to say like that right now I’m talking very legato. Whereas that my notes are connected, so let me share you certainly different. So, I’m probably now in legato but if I wanted to talk in staccato, I-would-be-talk-ing-like-this.
So staccato is actually short in notes and legato is connecting notes and normal is just obviously ineffective. So, let’s go back over here and this staccato—well, these notes are not staccato, they’re actually quarter notes. So if I wanted them to be staccato I would simply grab this and show you, I would put the dots on, so see how I — this dot right here that right there is telling my computer that I want them to be staccato.
So notice how you have this short dots right there, so now when you play them a staccato quarter note is the same as saying just a normal eighth note. So, if I were to have a dotted eighth note that would be the same as saying a 16th note. So it cuts in half but the idea is that when you get actually that much into it, it really doesn’t even make a difference. I mean the difference is that you’re singing a short note. This note staccato if I were to put a beat

And this will be legato, legato so that’s the idea of staccato and then legato. Legato is actually connected through slurs and ties, so that’s this line right here and the difference from a slur to a tie is that ties or the same note and slurs are for different notes. So now when I go and play my staccato notes let me play this for you. It will really be eighth note. Here’s staccato if I were to make them dotted, ready? So, here’s staccato.
[Demonstration]
All right, so now if I were to take away that staccato, you would now have this. [Demonstration] See how the notes are longer and then going back to the slurs and ties, that’s just if I were to change up, now we have a very legato sounding of this all – you know a very connected notes. [Demonstration] As supposed to staccato sound which would sound like this.

So if you don’t know then all you know and then this line here is just like, this line right here let’s notice a Tenuto which is something different I wouldn’t really go crazy over it. But there’s a lot of these cool little things that actually make your music sound more expressive and more human because when you’re human you’re not talking in all legato or all staccato the entire time. You’re costly changing pitch, rhythm, dynamics, all these things some words that you’re speaking are connected and some notes or some words are tenuto and all those stuff and by the way this right here refers to an attack. So that’s an accent in the word.
So if you don’t know, then now you know and thanks guys for everything hope this helped you and don’t forget to subscribe and comment. See you!
