I am Steve Turano. Welcome to this episode of Body Performance. If you are overweight and you have never exercised before, what is the best way to start a cardiovascular program? Well, for that answer would be three to four times a week for 30 to 40 minutes each time but the problem with that is, because you are not in good shape you get tired. In number one, you body does not utilize fat. Number two, and if you do not see results, you are going to become disappointed.
Now if that is the only thing you can do, that is better than nothing. But a better a program would be doing cardiovascular activities for short periods of times, numerous times throughout the day, 10 to 15 minutes of walking, four to five times a day. What this does, is it gradually gets you into shape; you do not get tired, your body becomes used to utilizing fat because the stress of exercise is more frequent, and you are less inclined to become disappointed.
So if you are overweight, more frequent cardio throughout the day at this stage of the game would be better than long periods of cardio.
Love your body.
