From Houston - Some researchers are calling for men to receive a vaccine, that was developed for cervical cancer. This is because the HPV virus that is responsible for causing the majority of cervical cancers has also been implicated in the cancers of the throat and mouth. Our recent study show that 72% of mouth and throat cancers are linked to Human Papillomavirus.
From Seattle - Statins, the popular drug that lowers cholesterol, may help prevent Alzheimer's disease. A recent study looked at the autopsy specimens of the brains of those on Statins and compared them to those who didn't have the condition. The brains of those on Statins have fewer plaques, the hallmark of Alzheimer's disease.
From the Stockholm - Drinking alcohol may lower the risk of kidney cancer. According to a study of over 2000 patients, those who drink two or more glasses of red or white wine or the equivalent amount of beer, are 40% less likely to develop kidney cancer. The effect maybe related to the antioxidants and anticancer properties in alcohol.
And finally from Denmark - A review of a large Danish Database has noted an association between maternal exposure of a chemical found in nonstick pans and stain-resistant carpets spray to the birth of low weight babies. Babies who are exposed to a high level of perfluorooctanoate while still in the womb were 175 grams lighter.
