Stop-and-Go Driving in a Stick Shift Car

I have been showing you how to drive a manual transmission vehicle and now I am going to show you how to handle turning corners, rolling stops and stop and go driving. If you have slowed down but not come to a complete stop and you need to pick up speed again then you should place the car into a gear that is most appropriate for your speed. So here we are coasting in neutral, let us say we are coming to the stop, it is a red light, then let us say the light turns green before you come to a complete stop and you want to pick up speed again. So pop it into second gear, if you are going at lower speed and then just accelerate again.

Now, people always ask, what gear should I use, when I am turning a corner? Well, it depends on your speed. So here is an approximate guideline. Use second gear when traveling between one and ten miles per hour, use third gear when traveling between 10 and 25 miles per hour and use fourth gear when traveling between 25 and 40 miles per hour. If you are driving in stop and go traffic, avoid staying on the clutch for long periods of time which is called riding the clutch because it is bad for the clutch and wears it down instead stand your break as long as possible and then shift into gears when you can.
