Jennifer Matthews: Victor Bertrand and his son always have a new project to work on. A few months ago, changing this tire would have been nearly impossible for Victor. In fact, he couldn't stand up for more than a few minutes.
Victor Bertrand: It was just very uncomfortable and I couldn't do a lot of things I liked to do all the time.
Jennifer Matthews: A condition called spinal stenosis robbed him of his favorite hobbies.
Victor Bertrand: The only way to relieve it was to sit down. If I'm working in the garage, I'd have to sit down for a little bit, and get back up and it's good for a few minutes and then it would come back.
Jennifer Matthews: Spinal stenosis happened when arthritis causes parts of the spine to compress. The result is pain that sometimes runs all the way down the legs.
Victor Bertrand: Can you think of that?
Jennifer Matthews: Now, neurosurgeon Sohaib Kureshi has a new way to treat patients. Instead of surgery to remove the bones in the spine, he implants this small device called the X-STOP. It creates a space between the spine and stops it from extending.
