Male: Okay, I am going to show you something now with the cards, we are not going to use all the cards, just six cards. So, I will tell you what, you take out card, any card you like, you take one out and you got five here. So you take one, you can take two out as well, just put all those cards on the table.
Female: Face up or face down?
Male: Faced down, face up it is up to you. Can you hold those? That would be great. I am going to arrange them like this, like a dice kind of thing. Now, did you know that your eyelid has got the weakest muscle of all, in all of the body the eyelid is the weakest muscle. Just try something for a second, just close one eye, just wink and put your finger on your eyelid, just one finger and try and open it. You got no chance, it is so weak you cannot do it right?
This is important now, we will do the same thing again, you do it this time okay. But what I am going to do is I am going to turn around now, the reason I mentioned the eyelid is I want you to take your two fingers while we are doing this and I want you to press on my eyes and hold my eyelids closed, are you ready?
Female: Yes,
Male: Press down on the eyelids, press down really hard, this is going to be absolutely short. Can you, you there. Can you put your palms now on top of my eyes, so put your palms like this, that is great. Now, go over with one of the hands and spin your finger over the top of the cards.
Female: And then?
Male: Have you done that?
Female: Yes.
Male: Take your hand away, whatever, wow. It is hard to adjust back afterwards right. You disturb the turbulence. I am just going to feel the air over the top and you guys actually disturbed over the top. I am sure you did it. Oh, I should not leave it so long. It is this one.
Female: Oh my God.
Male: Okay, this is the explanation for my effect turbulence. You may remember from the live performance, what I did was deal out six cards. In the same formation, that six spots would be on the face of a dice. And I am going to arrange them like this, like a dice kind of thing and then what I will do is simply turn around and I got the spectator to put their fingers on my eyelids and I could not say I genuinely could not see and yet when I turned around I was able to know instantly which card the spectator circled their finger above, creating some air turbulence.
Now, I go to confess, I was not alone on this, I did use the hidden assistant. The hidden assistant in the live performance was my colleague Wayne, who has stood immediately to my right, on your left as you look at the TV and he used a non verbal cuing technique to actually tell me which card was the one that the spectator has circled their finger above. So, once you have dealt out the cards, you then casually hand the cards to your hidden assistant.
Faced down, face up, it is up to you. Can you hold those? That would be great. The hidden assistant is going to help you out on the effect, holds the deck and they are going to cue you by using their thumb. Now, the thumb works like this, pointing to different parts of the pack, and when they got their thumb actually pertains to the position of the cards on the table. So you must keep the deck in the same orientation of the figure six formations like this.
If they circle their finger above the A’s Diamonds, your hidden assistant casually holds the deck with the thumb just here. So you can see that this mounts the position of the A’s Diamonds. If they said the king of clubs, the thumb would be over here, this will be the three of hearts, the queen of clubs, the ten of hears and the five of diamonds.
Each time the thumb nail, the tip of the thumb marks the position; all you need to do is casually turn around. As you turn back around you glance at the deck of cards.
You have done that, okay. Your spectator will be holding that deck of cards, and in this case marking the position for the kind of clubs, A’s of diamonds, queen of clubs, three of hearts, five of diamonds, ten of hearts. Have a little bit of a practice with a friend of yours. The next time you go out with a group of friends, try out this effect turbulence, it is really strong. Now, look back at the live performance and you will see Wayne in action. You would not spot it though.
