Lee Hayward: Hey how is going? It's Lee Hayward here and I am training out with my friend Jason Paris and he is strength and conditioning coach for the Georgia Tech Football team and we are going to run through a warm drill that he likes to put his athletes to. Actually this guy has trained some top level football players, guys who are in NFL right now. So he knows his stuff and he has a unique way of going about his training. We are going to go through some warm-up drills and it's not the standard -- you know get on spin your wheels on the treadmill and all that kind of crap that most people do. I mean he has got some unique agility and functional strength drills that we are going to run through. So let's say, we are going to get right to him now with the warm-up. Okay Jason, you want to just jump through and show us how you are going to do some of these warm up drills.
Jason Paris: We have a different type of modality; we are going to start with the ladder drill. So the first one is scissors, so alternate your leg, pick up speed, and you go all the way at the end and then come back. You can also use -- endless amounts of drills that you can do on a ladder. You can run through, you can just put one foot in each box, and walk till the end. You can also repeat that, you can do two feet each box, same as how you go. You can go through the ladder with one foot.
Lee Hayward: That's pretty challenging. Pretty good work out for the calves too. Yeah.
Jason Paris: And of course you want to work both, so you have to turn around.
Lee Hayward: Okay. That's stuff is a lot more challenging than spinning your wheels on cardio or elliptical or something like that?
Jason Paris: Yes, yes, it is, it's much more difficult. Then, what I call leap frog out up there. What it's real name is - It's like a leap frog or hopstops, you did when you were a kid. Drop your hips and you want to come back too.
Lee Hayward: Yeah.
Jason Paris: You can also do with touch, touch. Again this helps to strengthen your hips.
Lee Hayward: Let's go over just.
Jason Paris: Another thing you want to do--
Lee Hayward: We will stay back here because it's the angle of the camera we are just going run through a bunch of different drills here now and just like check them out.
Jason Paris: Okay, like this stuff backwards doing the same thing. When you do forward, you always want to get both directions.
Lee Hayward: Doing it reverse.
Jason Paris: You have to sit and do.
Lee Hayward: Oh yeah, I am screwed.
Jason Paris: Now, you are doing good.
Lee Hayward: I am not disappointing you Jason.
Jason Paris: It's real practice. Go down on one foot. Alright, now go back with the other foot and to make it even, you have to step in here. So you always go internal and then pushing external.
Jason Paris: That's internal, thanks for telling.
Lee Hayward: Alright. Alright, those are some killer drills, like I say, I am sweating more now than I would be if I was spinning my wheels on the treadmill.
Jason Paris: And it gives you a little more variety to you normally, you would have.
Lee Hayward: Oh yes!
Jason Paris: You basically kind of mix it up.
Lee Hayward: I noticed the muscle imbalance that I had with the hopping. I am actually stronger, I guess with the outer thigh pushing this way than with the inner thigh pushing in the other direction.
Jason Paris: You would probably notice, between legs, one leg is probably better than the other.
Lee Hayward: Yeah.
Jason Paris: You can just point it out so you can make adjustments.
Lee Hayward: Not only are you stronger in one arm than the other, you are usually stronger and bigger with one leg. That's some cool stuff man.
Male Speaker: This is just one of the several workout videos that I shot out with strength and conditioning coach Jason Paris. In future video clips, Jason and I will show some more killer exercises and workouts that will help build up your functional strength and conditioning while improving your agility, balance and explosive strength. So be sure to subscribe to my video channel, so you can get early notification when the next training video is posted.
