Whoa! What is that? Tissue paper hanging right out on my nose. Does that ever happen to you? Come out to whatever it is and all of a sudden you have a mirror shown to you or somebody speaks to you and you realized, “Hey! My fly is down, toilet paper hanging on my pants, tissue in my nose, food in your dress,” whatever it is. You have the circumstance where all of the sudden you realized that there is something about yourself that you did not know was true just a minute ago.
Few weeks ago, I was with a friend and had us over for a dinner. And I noticed that he had spilled some of the sauce on his shirt and I thought, poor guy, he does not even know he has sauce on his shirt. And I was there the whole time we were talking. And later that day, we came home and I was in my bathroom looking in the mirror and sure enough, sauce on my shirt, I did not even know. Poor guy, the whole time I was there, did not know I had sauce on my shirt.
Well, those things are kind of trivial most of the time. Most of the time they are a huge deal to us, but when it comes to our strengths and our weaknesses, those things can be rally huge. If we are not sure what are strengths are, and we go into a situation and we think our thinking is off of what really is true. That can have a huge impact on us. Have you ever had this happen to you? You are in some place and somebody says, “I think I can do that, I am great at blah, blah, blah,” and around the room somebody start snickering and laughing, and you make a knowing glance with somebody because you both know they are sure enough can ruin this, because it is not and area of their strength, it is not something that they can do.
When we grow and begin to know ourselves more and more. And we have this view of going, I want to hold up the mirror to myself at any point that I can, any chance I get, I am going to take the opportunity to look at myself in the mirror and go, “Hey what is true of me in this situation and what really is true?” And when we begin to see what is true of our selves, then we can go forward in confidence knowing yes, this is exactly who I was created to be. These are my strengths, these are my gifts, these are my talents and I can use them and I can be confident in going forward because I know in the past, yes, this has been true me and I have been able to use it.
I want to encourage you today, whatever it is, whether it is feedback from our friend, whether it is a personality test, whatever kind of circumstances, when you can get some feedback that speaks to you and helps you better understand your strengths and your weaknesses, go for it. It is going to help you in the long run. So this is Buddy Rathmell from Go Strengths, signing off, encouraging you to go deeper with your strengths.
