Stress and Back Pain

Jenny: Hi I'm Jenny from St. Petersburg, Florida. I never had back problems in my life. I'm active and haven't had any injuries. Recently, my neck and shoulders have been killing me all the time. Could back problems be caused by stress? Nick Shamie: Jenny, stress can definitely cause neck and shoulder pain. In fact when you are stressed, the muscles in the neck and shoulders can contract more and that could cause some pain. The other thing to look at is your activity level. If you are suddenly more active and that's what you think is causing you a pain I will try modifying your activities. If that doesn't take care of your pain then I would consult with the specialist.
