Stress and Heart Health

Michael: This is Michael from Portland, Oregon, and I am asking why does stress increase the chance of heart disease?

Joseph Kannam: Michael, the role of stress in heart disease is still very controversial. There are advocates that say that if you lead a stressful life then you are more likely to have a heart attack, but that's never been proven on a regular basis such as other traditional risk factors such as smoking, hypertension, and hypercholesterolemia.

So in general, we do think that being able to keep a low stress environment is important, it's not absolutely clear that it increases your risk of heart disease.
