Danielle: Strip isn’t about waxing and lingerie predominantly. It’s a new concept where we focus on a waxing only service and people can come and actually enjoy having a treatment as opposed to enjoying relaxing treatment. Well, I didn’t fight the need in this country to actually offer virtually paint free waxing. We know that when we take waxing quite seriously here however they don’t tend to enjoy having it done and we wanted to really kind of re-educate our clients to say that it can be fun, it can be done in a fun environment or luxurious environment and it can be very, very effectively, and more importantly, virtually paint free.
The wax that we use has different flavors. We have chocolate wax, berry wax, a gold looking wax and lavender wax to name a few. Some of them are more suited for sensitive skins, some of them are suited for men like—men who came and wax which was designed for men and it’s a great color and it takes hair up so it’s thick and stubborn and we got the lavender wax which we’d use on both sensitive skin. So each of them has a slight unique property.
Marie-Louise: In Chelsea, we’ve actually managed to feign the rooms quite elegantly and grandly around the wax’s flavors. We have a chocolate room, we have a lavender room, we have gold rooms and it’s very luxurious. The wax that we use is an Australian wax and it’s so gentle to the skin. There is no corner tearing or chic in effect off the wax because we use a pre-waxed oil which acts like a barrier between the wax and the skin. And then the wax shrinks back on the hair. And then when you remove the hot wax from the skin, it is a lot less painful than any other wax in the market.
Danielle: We love it when the brides come to strip because obviously they want to feel confident on their honeymoon that they aren’t going to have any sort of hair on their body and they’re often wearing skin bikinis. So the most popular treatment for them is a Brazilian along with legs and underarm, and they feel really, really confident because obviously they don’t want to go away feeling that they have any kind of bruising on their body which can happen after conventional waxing.
We got one team to come in prior to getting married, we would recommend coming to us probably five to six months prior to the date so that we can make sure we’re alleviating any ingrown hairs and also so that we can make sure that we get the growth cycle end correct so that we can alleviate any of the real sort of stubborn hairs prior to the big day and make sure that they’ve got a full fleet to five weeks before they see any hairs returning.
Marie-Louise: But also obviously, we don’t want to exclude those people that have been all ready for their wax and their honeymoons only by a matter of days or weeks they’re haired because we can still get short stubborn hairs up to one millimeter out.
Danielle: With regards to service level, you’ll receive at strip and Chelsea is like a five-star experience. We invoke a luxury lifestyle for our clients. We’ve invested a lot of time in our therapist training to ensure that they are training to the highest and in terms of hygiene and safety and techniques. And they also are very personable and they make you feel very, very comfortable especially when you’re having an intimate wax. That’s so important.
Marie-Louise: To compliment the waxing, we have a retail downstairs which is purely luxury brands that we buy like La Perla, Stella McCartney and Hanky Panky from the States. We cater for all different sizes here and also all our girls are trained in bra fitting which is fantastic for the client. And we felt that it went really well hand in hand with the waxing.
Coming up to the wedding season, we do buy lots of wedding gift ideas, little trinkets and stuff like bridesmaids. We also have bridesmaid knickers with bridesmaid written on it, embroider it which is quite cute. And we find a lot of bride’s underwear especially for the wedding season. Once they’ve had their wax in, they can come up and choose an underwear for their wedding day.
Not only do we look after the brides but we also cater for the grooms. We have a specialized men’s room in Chelsea which is fantastic. It’s very manly and we have the male wax called Magnifico. But also, they can come in and have their backs, any sort of area done prior to their wedding.
Danielle: So actually, you get a five-star experience and brides can come in and feel confident and happy with their treatment and the services that has been provided, and even leave with some fantastic gifts for their bridesmaid like some fantastic lingerie for their big day.
