Doctor: Yes, it can. It is a rare event. What is happens because it is so traumatic to the family and to the community when a child dies suddenly and unexpectedly it obviously gets a lot of immediate attention. In athletic children, competitive athletics, it is occurs approximately in one in every 200,000 people. However, since children are generally healthy and do not die very often sudden cardiac arrest represents a fairly significance percentage of the cause of death in children.
Male: Well one website said, it did affect 7,000 to 10,000 children died such a condition and about 19% of the death in children 1 and 13 and 30% of the deaths between 14 and 20 of all death in children so it maybe a little bit more then we realize.
Doctor: Well, with I think with that data is trying to say is the actual and the cause of death. For example, that could be sudden cardiac arrest in a child who had some other underlying know condition.

Male: But with no pre-existing condition. Okay it is pretty real yet statistic that we have come up and it may include other conditions and that is the end point or something else pre-existing or why will you get this number of things so high?
Doctor: I think were getting the numbers so high because of other pre-existing conditions that is the final cause of death being called Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I guess my point is to separates that total of sudden cardiac arrest over all versus what many people would be thinking about in other words a 14-year-old out on the field playing football.
Male: Totally unexpected?
Doctor: Totally unexpected, no pre-existing condition. That does represents a fairly significant present the cause of death in children just because death in children in itself is fairly rare. However, when have look at athletes and large population it is about 1 in 200,000. I think my point that I am trying to make is it does occur, it is a rare event. But often in a general public is proceed to be much more frequent if the child dies in a local community. It is not just that local community that knows about it, it is the entire region, it is on the news, and it is in the media. So, often that perception of the young athlete drop in dead is proceed that is being more common than actually he is. But certainly it is something that is need to be taken very seriously and look into to try to further decrease these occurrences what happening.
