Sherri Dmyterko: News Canada, Information for Life. For many Canadians ragweed season is the biggest allergy period of the year. In fact, ragweed plants are one of the most widespread causes of symptoms in seasonal Hay Fever sufferers and they continue to be a nuisance from August to the first frost. Robert Shaw explains.
Robert Shaw: I am allergic to ragweed and I suffer from hay fever. I have irritation of my eyes, sniffles, congestion, I just feel miserable.
Sherri Dmyterko: According to a recent Léger Marketing/Schering Canada Allergy Alert survey, approximately half of allergy sufferers say their allergy symptoms prevent them from being themselves. Respondent say they can't stay focused and they don't feel alert in their daily activities.
The same survey revealed that many allergy sufferers have to avoid outdoor activities because of allergy symptoms, have to put travel plans or social outings on hold and miss at least one day of work. But you don't have to let allergies put your life on hold. Liliane de Vries, certified professional coach explains.
Liliane de Vries: Almost half the people suffering from Hay Fever don't live the life they want, because the symptoms get in the way. But there are choices. They just need to look into their choices and make a decision. Imagine, eliminating all those symptoms and taking a walk in the park, socializing with friends and family or even just having a comfortable day at work. Just find out what the options are and then live your life.
Sherri Dmyterko: Today there are some very effective treatments to help people get through allergy season. Non-drowsy antihistamine, such as Claritin can provide fast and effective relief from sneezing, itchy watery eyes, and runny nose. It also gives you the opportunity to be alert and focused in your daily activities.
Robert Shaw: It was very hard to get through the day with my allergy symptoms, but now that I take non-drowsy antihistamine throughout the season, it relives all of my allergy symptoms and allows me to get through the day.
