When the summer hit rolls in and there is no release in the forecast. We can always find relief in a cool shady spot but what about the plants in our gardens and particularly those growing in containers. The summer can be even more impressive on them. But the sun does have it advantages. The warp can bring forward wave after wave of bloom all summer long if you take care of your plants properly.
Let me give you an example. This is Delia is already on it second way of bloom. After the first stocks emerge in flower I just cut it back and now it is ready to bloom again. Now, I am going to do the same with this small turbina. I am just going to clip off the spent flower heads. You see by doing this in just few weeks I will have even more blooms.
Of course, happy plants are well fed plants and I recommend feeding frequently about every two weeks with an all-purpose liquid fertilizer. You see since we have to water so frequently in the summer you leach out nutrients so it is important to keep them well fed. And I found that using of so slender container no matter the size is one of the best ways to help keep the soil consistently moist. Now, as added touch I am going to put in just a few of these begonias to give the container of sparkle right up into the first cold days of fall.
Now, if you would like more tips on container planting just check on our website from the garden I am Allen Smith.
