You know I got a lot of questions about how to grow a successful beautiful lawn and there are some things you need to keep in mind if that is your goal.
The first thing is you need to match the grass variety to your region of the world and you need to keep in mind that a certain amount of light you get place a role in the success of the grass, the more sun the better usually. The next thing you want is to get the soil right. You see, it needs to be well drained. Grasses do not like saggy spots. So if you got some of those areas in your lawn now, you might check on the drainage.
The other thing in the summer when it gets really hot like it is today. You want to make sure that the grass is a little longer than you usually cut it. Here I am cutting this grass about an inch and a half long. That is about a half inch longer than I usually leave it. This helps shade the roots of the grass, cuts down on the amount of water I have to use and it just seems happier that way.
Now when it comes to water, you want to make sure that you water at off time, because it is best to water early in the morning. Very early, like five am. This gives the lawn an opportunity dry out before night fall. A time when various types of fungus are the most active. This is also usually a non peak time for most community’s water supply. It is also much better to water early only a couple of times a week rather than to lightly water more often. You see deep soaking encourages deep root growth, whereas light watering encourages the roots to stay close to the surface of the soil making your lawn more susceptible and vulnerable to heat and drought.
Now, another thing to keep in mind is that an actively growing lawn this time of year would require about an inch to an inch and a half of water per week. This of course will depend on your soil type. Now when it comes to feeding, I think fertilizing ones, maybe twice so the entire growing season is planted. You see the more you fertilize the more grass you are going to cut with a mower. Lawns could be a source of pride. Just do not let the summer heat and drought get the most of it and you.
