There is more to buying sunglasses that meets the eye. They can protect those baby blues or browns from the sun's damaging UV rays, if you choose the right pair.

First, check the label; it should say that glasses block at least 99% of UV light. Wrap-arounds are best because they cover the whole eye and don't let sunlight sneak around the sides.

Don't assume darker is better. Colored lenses such as green or yellow can be just as protective as dark ones.

Polarized lenses are helpful for cutting down on glare, though they don't offer more UV protection.

Whatever type you buy wear them you around, and don't be fooled by cost. Inexpensive shades can provide just as much protection as pricy ones. Of course, they may not make you look as cool.
