Hi, this is Lars with Clean Air Gardening and today I am going to tell you about the Sunlawn LMM40 Manual Reel Mower. This mower was actually designed by the guy who originally started importing the Brill mower into the country. He saw some things that he wanted to improve about the Brill mower and decided to make his own and that is what the Sunlawn mowers are actually. This model has five blades. It has flame hardened welded steel blades. It has got a cutting range that goes from about 10 millimeters to 50 millimeters and that is right around half an inch to about 2 inches so its got a pretty good cutting range. The 40 in the name refers to the cutting width in centimeters. So it has a width cut, which is right around 16 inches or so. This mower is light weight, it weighs under 20 pounds and like the Brill, it also has a silent cut design, which means that the blade is not making contact with the cutter bar. It is missing it by just less than a millimeter and similar to the Brill it has the same method of adjustment where you’ve got these two spring loaded bolts here where if after a year or two or three, and it seems that the mower is not cutting as well as it used to, then you just need to adjust the blades and put them back in place. And what you do is you just tighten down with an adjustable wrench until you hear some clicking and then you back off just a little bit until there is no more clicking and the blade is just barely missing the cutter bar and then you are all adjusting. You should be ready to go for another few years. You can probably make it to a decade before the mower actually needs to be sharpened if at all.
This mower has a really nice handle design, you know with this metal loop that is nice and sturdy. It is easy to pick up. It has a similar height adjustment to the Brill design, whereas you’ve got these two orange knobs here and all you do is you loosen them and then you adjust the mower to the height that you want and make sure it matches on both sides. There are two measurements right here so you can make sure that the mower is evenly adjusted. Tighten it back down and ready to go. Most people typically keep their cutting height the same. They always keep their grass about the same height. But if you ever wanted to mow a little higher or a little lower, that is all you have to do to change it. This is a cool mower. I like it, why don’t you give it a try.
