Surf Rider Cocktail Recipe
Welcome to Common Man Cocktails, I’m your host, Derrick Schommer. Today, we’re going to create a drink twice. Actually, I created one ahead and done.
This drink is called the Surf Rider. It was a recipe that was submitted by Gina, and Gina had a couple of taste. I want to know, what’s the difference between Malibu? Which is what I believe the recipe calls for and using a Cruzan? Which is better? I don’t know and maybe nothing at all. Maybe there’s just comes down to brand loyalty.
So, what I thought would be I need the idea to answer the question and create the recipe is to create the drink, so what I did is I went ahead of time so I wouldn’t bore with doing it twice, and use Cruzan Coconut Rum to create the Surf Rider over here.
There, it kind of like pink, and it’s going to contain one and a half ounces of Coconut Rum or two and a half. I lowered the recipe on a one and a half, so I thought that was a little, a little too much. And I’m going to create again, it’s going to be one and a half of Malibu and we’re going to do a splash of Cranberry juice for a color and a third of an ounce of pineapple juice.
So, we’ll mix that one up now. It should look like that when we’re done. If I get my splash of pineapple juice correct, so let’s try it, so were’ going to do our one and a half ounces of rum, this time Malibu I’m done.
We’ll do our one third of an ounce of pineapple juice that makes it exactly like the last recipe. I’ll have at top of that because that would be silly, put that there and then a splash. I think it’s about—. It might be a little high but that’s about what I did on the last recipe, and we’ll shake that up, throw some ice in here. There you go.
I’ll try to make it quickly say I don’t the ice to dilute too much in that one since that will change the dynamics a little bit since you’re not drinking the ice, but I think this should be it’s closed.
Let’s check it out and I’ll keep in this way so I know. I think it’s pretty good with the dash and then the splash they came out the same. Alright, so let’s start with the —or I’ll go with the one that has been set now.
This is the Coconut Rum. I made it literally right before we started taping, so it should be very fresh and good. Okay, so intense coconut which I like. I’m a big fan of the Coconut Rum, so if you like Coconut Rum, you’re getting a slight tropical twist with the pineapple and the dash of Cranberry really the Cranberry juice in doing a lot in terms of taste profile. It’s giving a little color. I don’t think I taste my brandy I taste but—.
Oh, they go down quickly, so that is the Coconut from Cruzan. Intense coconuts, very much for some reason the first thing that comes to mind is Suntan lotion, but the Coconut, Suntan lotion. The smell —yeah I don’t know my coconut, Suntan lotion it’s not like the Marcus when I was a kid, and this is the Malibu. It’s definitely different I didn’t expect that. It’s definitely more sweet not as much coconut. More sweet and I want to say artificial I kind of do and want to say artificial flavoring, style coconut which I thought the Malibu would be, much more a natural tasting.
No, this has much more intense coconut not as sweet, so think of coconut almost more veggie though or more natural coconut because you don’t get like if you buy coconut or get the coconut —, you can get sweetness from that. You’re getting the coconut essence. In this, you’re getting sweet like Pina Colada sweet and they had the same ingredients, so if you like a sweeter style of drink with the hands of coconut, Malibu.
If you like intense coconut in your face, go with the Cruzan coconut. Both are good, both will feel a different desire so take your pick. I’m your host Derrick Schommer for Common Man Cocktails. We’re teaching you how to drink.
