Male 1: Okay, first of all you have to determine what your stance you are.
Male 2: Now, when you are standing up on the board which foot did you move forward? It is your left, your regular foot. Like Andy. If it is your right, your goofy foot like me. So, now that we have determined if you are goofy or regular let us talk about posture.
Male 1: Good posture
Male 2: Good thanks.
Male 1: We have to be verbal about it.
Male 2: Let us talk about it. Everybody has a different style in surfing, some people are stiff other people are loose and noodlely. It is all about how you distribute your weight over the surf board. We are going to teach you the easiest and simplest way to surf, it is the most basic baby it is just going straight. So it is not going to give you to much in it, trust me. After a while it flows.
Those boards have a center line, it is called the stringer, if it does not have one of these just imagine a line going right down the middle from the nose to the tail. Now, when you look down to your feet your toes should be on one side of the stringer and your heels is on the other. Keep your feet on to your shoulders and your knees bent. Make sure your chest is forward and for more balance you might want to put your arms out to the side. Try to just stay centered on the board, just be at the most stable place for you.
Now, this is a great neutral stance for beginners.
Male 1: Now, we are going to work on sign up as quick as possible. You want to stand up, alright, grab both of those rails and your basic push up. Now, keep your weight centered, if you lean too much on either side you are going to fall right over. Put your front foot on the center line. Now, just stand up turn your feet so that your toes are on one side of the stringer and your heels are on the other. Assume the neutral stance and you learn earlier. Toes on one side heels on the other.
There Chris, it is also important not to lock your knees, you wanted to be flexible. When you look in the magazines, you will see guys with similar stance. This is a functional and neutral stance so it will help you later. At some point, the ride will end and you are going to need to paddle again. So, lay back down simply use your hands on either side of your front foot. Move your front foot to the other tail of the board and lie down so your spine becomes the centerline of the board.
Male 1: Well, the hardest thing about surfing is catching the waves you want. Bench is a great tool to practice your paddling like my friend Jose.
Male 2: When you are paddling for a wave it is kind of like your life depends on it everytime, if you do not paddle hard you are not going to get it, it is that simple. Do not be lazy catch that wave.
The best type of paddling is done by keeping your arms close to your board and use deep strokes. Your hands are paddles so make sure you keep your fingers together, dig dip and paddle hard. Paddling is a triceps and back exercise. Once you stand up bring your front foot up between your hands and under your chest. Like other rail and now you are surfing.
So once your ride looks like it is coming to an end, do not just jump off, lay back down and get in control of your board.
Male 1: So, that is it, paddle, stand, surf, and lay back down. Now, let us put it all together and go do it. Before you go out, support the sun in the ocean and see where you are going to go out at. That is where we plan to take you, on land we are in control but once you get in the water the ocean is going to charge you. Sometimes, we lay flat for a long time then out of no where there will be a bunch of waves of coming in.
Beach surfers spend a lot of time checking the waves before they go out.
Male 2: Do not be like one of those guys just sits out there and does nothing, study the ocean before you go out. Watch where it breaks, get in the right spot that way you will be surfing in no time. Are you ready to drop some science on these guys?
Male 1: Let us do this.
