Blunt instruments need a backswing to do any serious damage to you and so as the weight of the weapon can sometimes make it unwieldy and therefore, making attacker slow and cumbersome but if you can get out of there, just go. If you have to say and deal with it, react from the backswing. Get it done and get away. What the attacker is going to do with that is a blunt hinge from being used like a baseball bat. Backswing is when you react, remember that you got to react from the backswing.
Now on the backswing, you are going to move forward into the arc of the attack taking the blow on the biceps. So as the arms come forward, you will wait to meet them with the biceps. As it comes forward that's going to be very painful on the attacker's elbows and it's probably going to drop him back to that stage. But we are not going to rely on that.
As you get to that stage, as soon as your biceps meets the arm, you are going to kill with the forearm, take control of those arms and at the same time, the elbow is going to come through and you got your body weight behind that as well because all this is happening simultaneously.
So on the backswing, you react you move forward into the arc, take a blow on the bicep, draw it through with the elbows and do with that attack. On the backswing, move in, take a blow on the bicep, control the arms and the elbow comes in over the top. Meeting the arms, controlling the arms and bring that elbow over the top.
Once more. A very, very difficult situation dealt with very simply.
