Hi! I'm Mike and this is Tina. We're with Head Over Heels Dance and Fitness. We're showing you basic swing dancing and right now we're going to show you how to do Jitterbug in closed position. It looks like this. Rock step, triple step, triple step, rock step, the triple step and triple step.
So we're going to start from the very beginning. We need to first get into this position. I have a couple points of contact here. First, my right foot goes between the lady's legs and we have sort of V shape kind of a check mark shape, so my right hip goes in towards her belly button and my right hand just goes comfortably in the middle of her back, just like that.
My left hand, oh yes, for the lady's of right left hand, she is going to be putting that on my shoulder. She gives me a little tension here between her elbow and my elbow. So with that connection here, I can kind of move her around on the dance floor. The left hand actually isn't doing a whole lot of work here. We just keep it nice and relaxed at her side.
I put my left hand facing straight up and her hand goes just nicely and it's facing straight down. So that's the position and the footwork looks like this. It's a rock step, triple step, triple step and that's a repeating pattern that we'll do.
The rock step is simple. It's just a rock step, I open up. On my left foot, I step backward and she steps back on her right. The triple step is called a triple step because there are three steps. For me, it's left, right, left. I am going to get that done in two beats. For the lady, it's right, left, right.
So another way to think that triple step is to think of it as a shuffle step. So we do a rock step and I just shuffle forward, shuffle back. So we want to do a rock step and then a triple step forward and then we triple step backwards right and right. So the whole thing goes rock step, triple forward, triple back.
So at this point, you actually know enough to do, enough Jitterbugging through a whole dance, but you'll probably want to move around on the floor so that the lady doesn't have to just stare at the same wall.
And I can do that by doing these basic positions and I can just rotate her around the room, just like triple, rock step. So I do my same footwork while I just sort of rotate her around. I can also kind of rotate to my left while I do this. Triple step, triple step, rock step.
That's dancing in Jitterbug closed position basic and now we want to learn how to do some basic Jitterbug turns.
