Tina Foley: Hi! We are Mike and Tina, from Head Over Heels Dance and Fitness. And we are going to teach you the basics of swing dancing.
Mike Foley: Although swing dancing encompasses a wide variety of styles, we are going to focus on the three most common. That's the Jitterburg, Charleston, and the Lindy. You can dance these styles individually or more commonly you want to go in and out of them in the same swing dancing.
This is what you are going to need in order to swing dance. First of all, you need nice comfortable shoes, something with smooth bottoms are the best but you can wear sneakers too, people do that as well. And you will need loose fitting I think, because you are gong to stretch around a little bit and you don't want to rip your clothes doing that turn. Finally, you might even want to bring an extra shirt if you are a guy, especially because it's a pretty athletic dance and we end up working up a little bit of sweat.
Tina Foley: Some safety issues concerning dancing that you might want to consider is being courteous to your partner, especially the guys, they need to be very courteous of the women, when they are turning them to be concious of not over-rotating them. The other concern is that they need to be concerned with other people around them while they are dancing, not to run into them, step on your feet. So if you do step on someone the appropriate thing to do is say I am sorry.
Before we get started I want to tell you a little bit about ourselves, Mike and I have been dancing since 1999. We have actually been dancing and competing, and in 2007 Mike and I started a dance business called Head Over Heels Dance and Fitness. Now that you a little bit about us, let's get started and we are going to teach you some basic swing dancing.
