Hi! I am Rich Hogan from the Whitetail Golf Resort and in today's teaching you how to swing a golf club properly. We are going to review the entire swing from pre-swing all the way through up to finish position. First thing we talked about was working with a grip taking 10 Finger, Interlocking, or an Overlapping grip, working on position of the body, getting the ball in the proper part of the stance, keeping the ball in front of you in an athletic position.
The next thing we worked was getting into a finish position, trying to get the golf club in the proper position at the finish position. Allowing the body to turn, allowing the right heel to come up in the air, so that I can face down my target line, and the more I can face down the target line, the better results I am going to get. If my heel were still on the ground, I'd probably be hitting the ball off to the right, or if my hands were too low, it's going to cause me to pull the ball off to the left.
The next thing that we worked on is posture. Setting this spine angle, allowing us to bend it at the waist little bit, keeping the hands underneath the body not stretched out, nor do we have them too close. After we get the posture, we are going to work on ball position. Keeping the ball on the proper part of the stance, with the irons more in center, with the woods little bit more off to the left heel for right-handed player.
The next thing we worked on is taking the club back to the top of the backswing. Bringing the golf club, not straight back, not outside the swing, but bringing the club a little bit to the inside on the takeaway allowing the club to come up, keeping the club face square to the ball at this point, then working on just a good shoulder turn, getting the club set at the top of the swing.
At this point of the swing, we are going to allow the hands to start to drop, bringing the club back down to the golf ball on the same path that we took it back on. This is going to allow us for better results, if we get the golf club from this position here bringing it down on the same path, we are going to have a better chance of striking the ball and getting it to go where we want it to go.
If we get the golf club here and we first move this as casting motion, we are going to come across the ball, pull across the ball cause it a little bit left to right golf swing or left to right swing of the ball, which is going to cause the ball to slice.
Here at Whitetail we have a lot of high grass and natural areas, and the key to the golf swing is to hit straighter shots and keep it in the short grass and that will lower your scores. From Whitetail I am Rich Hogan and thank you.
