Symptoms of Depression

Question: What are the symptoms associated with depression?

Dr. Ziad Nahas: The main two symptoms that we are looking for are substantial sad or depressed mood and the loss of pleasure which we call Anhedonia. Often as we are diagnosing depression, we look for having these symptoms to be consistently present, predominantly throughout the day for at least two weeks.

If you have these two symptoms for two weeks or more and they predominate throughout the day, then you go looking for other symptoms and you probably would need about four of the following that either you would be looking for sleep disturbances, appetite weight disturbances, issues related to fatigue and energy cognitive dissonance and pessimism and lose of esteem and guilt and obviously at culmination of all these thoughts for self harm and suicide.
