Symptoms of a Yeast Infection

Elise: Hi! I am Elise I am from Chicago, Illinois. I am 25 years old, and I am wondering, how do I know if I have a yeast infection?

Jonathan Schaffir: Well Elise there are number of symptoms that can be present when a yeast infection is present. The most common symptoms are vaginal discharge along with some vaginal itching, or irritation. Sometimes there could be an unusual odor present. Some times there could be some burning after urination and some times people with a yeast infection don't have any symptoms at all. That can also be normal because sometimes yeast is present even without causing an actual infection. If a yeast infection is diagnosed it can be easily treated with a number of medications most of which are available over-the-counter. However it's usually recommended that if you aren't sure that if you have a yeast infection, you should see a physician for an exam just to make sure you are not treating something else instead.
