Rea: My name is Rea, I'm from Brisbane and my question is what is the TB skin test? Steven Johnson: We had the TB skin test is a procedure that we perform in the clinic to determine whether individuals that previously been exposed to that infection, involves inserting some of the tuberculosis as proteins under the skin and then measuring your body's immune response to those proteins. If there is swelling 2-3 days after placement of the tuberculosis skin test that implies that you have been exposed to the germ that causes tuberculosis and in that case you may be a candidate for antibiotic treatment to prevent complications of tuberculosis later in life.
