TC Electronic PolyTune Pedal Tuner Gear Review
Hey guys! In this guitarlessons.com Gear Review, we’re going to be taking a look at the TC Electronic PolyTune Pedal Tuner. And I found out that TC Electronic was coming out with the pedal tuner, I was super excited because I know the quality of their stuff is just really nice and I knew they have some really cool about it but didn’t expect it to be this cool, something really awesome, if you haven’t seen it before.
Anyway, I’ll give you some of the pros and cons features then just—rating for this tuner. One of my favorite things about this tuner is that it’s very small and very lightweight. Actually, when I took it out of the box when I first got it, I took it out and I was like, “Great, it doesn’t come with the battery”, because it was so light but I opened it up, looked inside and took the battery out, there was actually one in there. And I took it out, put it back together and it was just amazing at how light this thing was. It’s great because it doesn’t weigh your pedalboard down if you already have heavy pedalboard. And the size is pretty good, it’s not too thick like a lot of other tuners out here. It’s really accurate. I love it as far as the accuracy and quality.
Super bright displays, it’s really nice. Anyway, it’s on regular chromatic mode right now and she’s on the needle not the stream. There's two modes, needle like you see right now and then there's stream mode too which I’ll show you later. And that there's also two modes for tuning, that’s the chromatic mode right here which you're seeing. And then here’s a cool part about this tuner. They call it the PolyTuner because you can get all your strings at once. And it will tell you where you are on your string. You see I’m a little bit flat on just about everything. It’s everything up here. I'm just strumming all six strings. It’s giving me a read out.
This is really cool for wide gigs because if you're in between songs but you know you're out of tune, you don’t have a lot of dead time, so you can just let all your strings find out which one is out of tune right off the back and then just fix that, move on to the next song and that’s a really cool feature. Let me change a few here and I’ll give you a close up of some of the features on it and everything.
So here’s an up-closer view of the PolyTune. You can tell it’s pretty thin which is great for like a pedalboard real estate. It doesn’t take a lot of space on your pedalboard and it doesn’t weigh down, it doesn’t make any heavier than it has to be. On the back, there's your power in and a power out too, so if you have a dozen of changes like the—you can power multi-pedals off of that. So, that’s pretty cool.
These two buttons right here are your mode selectors. It’s on the front. You can either choose from streaming mode like a strobe tuner or you can go with the traditional kind of needle view. And this button over here, this selector, mode selector, if you're into down tune, you can use the PolyTune function, there's E. You can go down to Eb, D and you can strum all the open strings and that will read out all six strings for that drop tuning if that’s what you want.
The TC Electronics PolyTune is $99.99 right now. It’s current market price anyways and it’s super accurate, super lightweight. The only cons I could find with it was they didn’t come with the power supply but not a lot of pedals do. But the real con was they didn’t have the output for bypass where you can punch through and your signal still keeps going. That’s the only really negative thing that I could come up for this guy. Another cool thing about it is it comes with a Velcro for the mounting on your pedalboard stacks. So, that’s really awesome.
So, if you're looking for a really good pedal tuner that’s not anymore expensive than most of the other good pedal tuners out there but has a really super cool PolyTune function then you might want to check this one out and add it to your pedalboard.
