Taniya Nayak: This room was okay, but really who was live with just okay by making costume
balances in a colonial style, adding unique sleep covers and refurnishing in aging
chandelier this dining room welcomes guests from near or far. The best part is I
did it all for under a $100 and in less than half a day. Starting by making balances
first because it is the biggest project I’m doing but it also has the biggest design
influence over the rest of the room. The first thing I need a strip of wood, I
measuring the wood to fit inside the window frame. Just ask them to cut it at your
local hardware store. The reason this project is so great is because there is no
selling involved. I’m using bonding web and that’s going to give me a finish edge
all you do is lay it down and fold over your fabric, get the iron nice and hot. When
I come to picking fabric for your balance take cues from around the house you
could do a classy elegant look or if you have busy walls maybe a solid color.
I choose to use a traditional fabric to tie in with the rest of the house. This goes
really fast because you only need to finish the sides, the bottom is going to get
rolled it up and the top is going to get rough around the wood. My last step is to
add ribbon, the ribbon attaches to the wood at loops down to create swag. I
choose a share ribbon so that it doesn’t take way from the detail of the stripes; all
I’m doing is folding the ribbon in half and bringing it to about a third of the
weight in, one click staple. How cute are these? I’m screwing this up into the
window to finish the project and it will be all done. My balances are done, they
look great but now we need something to compliment them and the rest of the
dining room. You are not going to believe what I have in store, everybody has one
of this a pillow case, and I’m turning this pillow case into a slip cover. Almost
makes you wonder why you haven’t taught it before. This is a nice, simple casual
look but if you want to dress it up, grab some ribbon and tied it around and make
the bow and you’ve taken an ordinary chair and turn it into extraordinary one.
My next project is to update this old chandelier clearly its in better days. Using a
thin and steady spray will ensure that the paint does not drip especially into the
bulb sockets as an added measure you go cover them up with tape. I’m spraying
the chandelier with the locker finish paint to give it a classy elegant look. I’m
going for a modern take on a traditional look but if you want to go shabby sheik
just wrap it up with some sand paper and you got shabby sheik. This dining room
was definitely missing something, style. By making costume balances without
sawing, using pillow cases, spray paint and a few things I found around the
kitchen this dated colonial dining room got to design you update and I did it all in
less than half a day and for under a 100 bucks.
