the "long stick" sort of started in Okinawa, Japan because they werent allowed to own weapons so they had to use what was around them. The "long stick" or Bo (as i call it, im sure it changes everywhere though) was just a tool used to carry equipment, kinda like in Mulan how you see them with a bag on either end of the staff and the staff across their shoulders. Another weapon that started out this was was the Aiku (idk on the spelling) but it was originally used as a river oar. so the "Bongsul" was not "created" in the 80's (assuming thats what you meant by created). It has been around forever as a tool and Martial Weapon. sorry to burst your bubble. I take Seibukan Shorin Ryu.. so thats where i got most my knowledge. but im sure since TKD isnt really a Japanese martial art, or more specifically an Okinawan Martial Art I cant say for sure they used it as a tool as well.

"your probably not learning taekwondo (korean) if your calling your instructor sensei (japanese)." uh dude, this is totally irrelevant. I've been taking TKD for almost 3 yrs and my master is straight off the boat SOuth Korean, but i still call him sensei and he approves of it. how dare you accuse someone of not taking TKD without knowledge? sorry for this guy's ignorace fireice
