Stefanie: Hi! I am Stefanie from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I would like to know more about the health risks in getting a tattoo? Dr. Rick Mizuguchi: Stefanie, there is not a lot of health risks in getting a tattoo. You want to make sure that the tattoo artist uses sterile technique so you don't get an infection. But, if you do get infection, typically that could be treated with a topical antibiotic or an alternate antibiotic, otherwise very rarely you could be allergic to the tattoo dye, and in that case, we usually treat the patient with the steroid.
