Teach your Children Table Manners

Hi, this is Shalanda with Tookes Wilder Guidance, your relationship coach. I would like to thank you for joining me today. Today's topic is table manners for kids. I have a lady who wants to know how to teach her child table manners.

Now, the first thing you want to do is start them off while they are infants, sitting in their hot chair at the table. That way they can watch the family eat, and they will pick up manners from your interaction that way.

Also, while they are a toddler, you want to sit them in a booster seat. Like this guy, he is in a booster seat with his seatbelt strapped on, and he is learning to sit still while he eats his food, as opposed to jumping up from the table and running around, that's what we are working on, to keep learning how to sit down at the table and eat his food.

This guy over here, he has already learned how to sit down, so he is able to sit in a regular chair, with the rest of his family.

Now, there once was a story where a girl would run around the table, and put her hand in everybody's plate, and she had no manners at all. So her parents got her a caregiver who taught her to sit still and eat from your own plate. What this caregiver did, she was diligent and persistent, and then over a period of time, the little girl learned to sit at the table, and this little girl's name is Helen Keller. We all know Helen Keller went on to do great things.

So my point is, it starts young, and you have to be diligent. Any type of discipline starts when the child is young and it's up to the parents to be diligent and persistent. Thank you.

Also, when the child is eating right, sitting at the table, using his manners, you want to reward them with kind remarks, hugs, treats. This guy here, he likes hugs.

So remember, be diligent, persistent, and patient. I hope this helps you.
