I think it is excellent advice. Our 12 week old Rotts were learning this at nine weeks.

This video is way too short to teach the concepts of 'recall' so I can understand "Guest" questioning it. Occasionally, a dog does need 'correction' for unwanted behaviors. Correcting a dog for doing ANYTHING that hasn't happened in the last 8 seconds is only serves to make you look really stupid. Striking a dog as a training tool is NEVER necessary. It's a long proven fact. Dogs respond to training fastest when Rewards AND Corrections occur INSTANTLY (by correction I mean stern voice or other show of displeasure NEVER striking them). If your dog doesn't come to you out of it's own free will, it's YOUR fault for not properly training them before letting them free to roam. Punishing them for approaching you doesn't make any logical sense in addition to having it actually SLOW down your training program by confusing them. If you are calling your dog for more than 10 seconds with no response, he is not ready to be off-lead. Dogs should come instantly when called if not, l
