Hello again! My name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I'm looking at the ABIT RX600 Pro-Guru 256Megabyte PCI-Express Video Card.
What's included in this package are User’s Manuals, a CD which includes drivers and utility software, a DVI to VGA Adapter, a composite video cable, S-video to composite video adapter as well as a S-video cable and the video card. This is a PCI-Express video card that means it’s double the bandwidth of the standard AGP 8X. Now let’s have a closer look at the video card. Well, you can see right away it has a cooler on the core and Ramsinks here on the memory. The core speed is 405 megahertz in a Normal mode and in the Turbo setting, its 500 megahertz for the core. The memory speed is 257. Now the memory does have Ramsinks on this side. However they are not covering all of the memory, you can see here, it certainly is not covering the memory completely. And there are no Ramsinks on the memory at the back of the video card. So quite frankly this is really for look more than anything else. When you have ramsinks on memory you really want them to cover 100% of the memory for it to be efficiently cooled.
Now, let’s get back to that core speed, I said 405 and 500, what's all that about? Well, they have a jumper right here. This right now is the setting for Normal mode which means the core speed of 405. If you set it here, it will adjust the core speed to 500 megahertz. With the video card installed, have a look as I change it from the Normal setting, you could see it’s a green LED to the Turbo setting which is a red. Also note that the cooler has a blue LED fan. Right here is the DVI connection, the S-video out and the regular analog VGA connection. The card does support dual display and of course with two displays you'll have a lot of room to work. This video card has two hundred and 56 megabytes of DDR memory, four full precision pipelines, two geometry pipelines and also uses the regular ATI Catalyst Unified software. It also has technology such as the ATI SmartShader 2, SmoothVision 2.1, HyperZ and VideoShader so it has all kinds of technology built into it. And it has something quite different, a dual BIOS for enhanced reliability.
And something else unique is the ATI vGuru software. Now this software has a number of different features. One of them being the OC Guru, this will allow you to overclock the video card right through that application. Also FanEQ will allow you to adjust the fan speed depending upon the core temperature. This is the fan of course, that’s right here. And the BlackBox, well the BlackBox Technology automatically detects the system information which then will be sent directly to Abit’s Tech Support via email for processing. So you don’t have to worry about filling out forms or that type thing, a perfect solution if something was to go wrong with the video card.
As you can see from the results, this particular video card is certainly is not the fastest on the market. To give you some idea where it falls in the place in these series of cards, well there's a X300, X600, X700, X800 card but there's a few variations in there but now I’d give you a better idea where this particular card falls into place. Now a couple of things I really like about the card is the jumper from Normal to Turbo. That is fantastic for anyone who does not want to get involved with overclocking and trying to figure all that out, just put it to Turbo, install it, that’s it. Now if you want to get into overclocking and all that kind of stuff, well you’ve got the vGuru software and with that you can do all kinds of things. Overall this is a kick great product. Again, my name is Rodney Reynolds, this has been another video review. Be sure to check back very soon, I will have a brand new one for you then.
