Hello again, my name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I will be looking at ATI Radeon 9000 Pro 64 megabyte video card.
What is included in this package is a DVI to VGA adaptor. You also get an S video to composite video connector, this goes plugged into the back of the video card then you can plug your composite cable in to here. Now, no S video cable comes with this package, however you can go ahead and purchase an S video cable if you need one and it goes plugged in right here. Also included is an installation CD and the video card.
For ATI, this is one of the new series video cards, however, it is intended for the budget market. It’s a budget video card, however, I’ll show you the results a little later on this video review and you will agree that they are quite good for a card like this.
Now some of the technology that goes into our card like this, I’ll just go over a few key features. There's one called Smartshader, and that’s the technology that really enables more complex and realistic lighting effects. There’s also a technology called Smoothvision, or anti enlacing technology which smoothes out the images in characters in games. Also there is a Video Immersion 2 technology for unprecedented video quality. There's also a technology called Full String, and that’s ATI’s new video acceleration technology enhances the quality of video by removing all the blocking artifacts and so on and so forth. Also with this card, for a budget card again this is great, it has the dual display support.
The core speed on this video card is 275 megahertz and the memory is 3.3 nanosecond memory at 275 megahertz DDR is 550 megahertz. Now over clocking this video card, I was able to get the core to 295 as well as the memory up to 285. Now that’s quite high, that’s nothing extra in the system. No extra cooling on it, so it’s very good in over clock for a card like this. That was by the way a 100 percent stable over clock in just about every benchmark and game I threw at this card.
On the back of the card here, we have the standard VGA connection, the S video connection, and the DVI connection.
The 3D Mark 2001 second edition result is 7,602. These are the settings for the Comanche 4 demo, a screen resolution of 1024x768, the bit depth is 32, texture compression is checked, I disabled the v sync and hardware shaders are checked. And the result is 30.53 frames per second. The Quake 3 Arena settings are, the video mode is 1024x768, the bit depth is 32 bit, the geometric detail was high, the texture detail is at max, the texture quality is 32 bit, and the texture filter is trilinear. And the result is 153.7 frames per second. In the XS Mark, all the settings are default except for a screen resolution of 1024x768 at 32 bit. And the result is 6,358.
For a budget card in ATI’s new series of video cards, this is definitely a great kind to have if you are in the market for some 3D game but as well some really good 2D quality. All ATI cards of course has that quality. But again, this is not a card for somebody who wants the maximum performance. You want to go ahead and get ATI 9700 for that. However, you're going to spend a lot more money for a card like that over a card like this. But again, this card overall is a great product.
Again, my name is Rodney Reynolds and this has been another video review. Be sure to check back very soon. I will have a brand new one for you then. Also be sure to pop into my website at www.3Dgameman.com. And while you're there, you could pop the forums, if you haven’t already registered, you can go in there and register. Registration is completely free. You could find out all kinds of information about all the products I video reviewed. Until the next time, take care.
