Hello again, I’m Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I’m looking at the Cooler Master Storm Scout Case. This mid tower ATX case is all black inside and out and is constructed from steel and plastic.
At the top is lots of ventilation and a 140 millimeter exhaust fan is included but if preferred, this fan can be removed and an optional 120 millimeter fan can be installed instead. There is also a handle at the top which is excellent and I wish more cases had integrated handles because we could move the case that much easier especially if you are using the case for LAN parties.
Conveniently located at the top is the reset button, power button, hard drive activity LED, power LED, external Serial ATA port as well as a headphone jack, microphone jack and four USB 2.0 ports. There is also a little button here which turns the red LEDs that are on the front and rear fan On or Off. At the front, there are five 5.25-inch drive bays but the last one has a 5.25-inch to 3.50-inch drive bay adaptor so a 3.50-inch drive can be installed. And a 3.50-inch mesh drive bay cover is also included.
The front panel can be easily removed by pulling at the bottom. Note that each of the 5.25-inch drive bay covers have dust filters as well as the 3.50-inch drive bay cover. At the bottom is a 140 millimeter red LED intake fan and there is a dust filter on the front bezel.
The left side panel has a large window, lots of ventilation and two optional 120 millimeter intake fans can be installed but there’s no dust filter. At the back of the case is where the motherboards I/O shield plate would get installed and they include a 120 millimeter red LED exhaust fan. If preferred, an optional 92 millimeter or 80 millimeter fan can be installed instead.
Here are the seven expansion slots and there’s a one for organizing cables as well as some extra ventilation. At the bottom is where a standard ATX power supply gets installed and they also include for thumbscrews, two on each side panel. This case fits micro ATX and standard ATX form factor motherboards. They also include a motherboard template. There’s a fair amount of room to work on the inside of this case but unfortunately the motherboard tray is not removable.
The motherboard tray has cable management holes, there’s one at the bottom and there’s another at the top. These holes allow cables to pass through which allows cables to be hidden and these cuts down the cable mess inside the case improving air flow. There’s a large hole on the motherboard tray which allows access to the heat sinks or waterblocks mounting the hardware. Since many heat sinks or waterblocks require mounting hardware to be installed on the back of the motherboard, it means that you won’t have to remove the motherboard. If you wish to remove or replace the heat sinks or waterblock, this is extremely convenient and an enormous time saver. On the back of the motherboard tray, there is also places to attach cable ties and then cables too. There are five internal 3.50-inch drive bays for hard drives and installing hard drives is tooless due to this hard drive rail mounts which snap on each side of the hard drive.
A 1.8-inch or 2.50-inch hard drive can be installed using the included mounting hardware. Installing drives in the 5.25-inch drive bays is also a tooless operation and so is installing cards in the expansion slots. A removable power supply dust filter is also included. This case even fits full length video cards. At the bottom are four plastic feet, rubber would have been preferred because it won’t scratch the surface and has excellent anti-vibration properties. Finally, have a listen to the stock cooling.
This is one of the better mid size tower cases on the market. It looks great. I love the fact that it has a handle black inside and out. There’s a plenty of fans but you can add more if you want too, also lots of drive bays but I would have like to see rubber or silicon feet on the bottom, also a removable motherboard tray would have been wonderful and the air filters on the left side panel for those optional fans that you can install would have been nice as well but overall, this is a kick ass product. Until the next time, take care
