Tech Review - Corsair XMS 3200XL Pro Memory
Hello again. My name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I’m looking at the Corsair XMS 3200XL Pro Dual Channel Memory. The speed on this memory is 400 megahertz DDR or PC 3200 and has a CAS of 2. Now what does DDR and CAS mean?
DDR stands for Double Data Rate and that means it doubles the bandwidth of the memory by transferring data twice as fast both the rising and the falling of the clock cycle. CAS stands for a Column Access Select or Column Access Stroke and that essentially means the number of cycles for a memory to get information and then process that information and also keep in mind that a lower CAS is much better than a higher CAS. For example a CAS of 2 will result in better memory performance than 2.5 or 3. So try and keep the CAS as low as possible when overclocking.
This memory is also dual channel which means better overall memory bandwidth resulting in superior performance but in order to benefit from this technology, you will need to have a dual channel motherboard. Now dual channel motherboard do not have to fully independent 64 bit memory controllers but dual channel board do which means it have 128 bit memory interface. Now this memory will work fine on non-dual channel motherboards but the overall performance will be much less at the same speed.
This kit comes with two sticks of 512 megabytes each totaling one gigabyte. Each module has an aluminum heat sinking and this does help dissipate the heat. They also come with the lifetime warranty. There are two things that separate this memory from others in its class and the first one at low latencies of 222 and 5. That’s at 400 megahertz DDR or PC3200.
The other one are all of this activity LEDs right here on the back of the memory, there are 18 of these, and they really do not serve any other purpose, the size looking really cool when they’re operational.
The timings on this memory are fantastic. Now it’s not the greatest at overclocking but it’s not bad, it’s really not intended for any kind of really serious overclocking. I love those 18 LEDs and there is no way to go wrong with Corsair’s performance, quality and compatibility of the memory. Overall this is a kick-ass product.
Again my name is Rodney Reynold and this is been another video review. Be sure to check that very soon. I will have a brand new one for you then. Also pop into my web site at www.3dGameMan.com.
