Tech Review - Corsair XMS 3500C2PT DDR Memory
Hello again. My name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today will be looking at Corsair 3500 DDR memory. This is currently the fastest memory from Corsair. Some of the specs on this memory are a DDR speed of 434 megahertz and of course this is PC-3500 memory and has a CAS of 2.
Now what does DDR stand for and what does CAS stand for? Well, DDR is Double Data Rate and that means it doubles the bandwidth of the memory by transferring data twice as fast on both the rising and the falling of the clock cycle. Now CAS stands for Column Access Select and that essentially means the number of cycles for the memory to get information and then process that information and a lower CAS is much better than a higher CAS.
This is 5 nanosecond memory and currently the memory is available in up to 512 megabyte modules. Right now, I have two 256 megabyte modules. You can see here on the memory there’s a silver thing on the front and the back, what is that? That’s the heat spacer, a platinum heat spacer which certainly does help dissipate the heat at really high speeds and at a speed of 434 megahertz DDR. This is going to get hot and certainly that heat spacer does help a lot and this memory by the way has a lifetime warranty.
Next I will be doing a benchmark on this memory but before I do let me just tell you how this memory compares to other memory in the speed department. Well for example, this memory the PC3500 is around 3.47 gigabytes per second of bandwidth, how does that compare to PC3200 memory? Well, PC-3200 memory gets around 3.2 gigabytes per seconds of bandwidth and for example RAM bus PC-800 as well gets around 3.2 gigabytes per second. So unquestionably this is very fast memory.
I will be using the Abit IT7 MAX2 motherboard and you can see right here I have a front side bus of 170 megahertz. Also the ratio here is important 3 to 4 which means 1.33 times 170 is going to give me approximately a DDR speed of 453 megahertz. Remember the default recommended speed for this memory is 434 megahertz, so I’m going well over that.
Now let’s have a look at the memory timings and at that very high speed of 453 megahertz DDR, these are the following memory timings 2, 7, 3, and 3. And the result is 3391. This memory is fast. It overclocks well. It’s stable and it comes from a company with a great reputation in the memory department. Also this memory has a lifetime warranty. Overall this is a kick-ass product.
Again my name is Rodney Reynolds and this has been another video review. Be sure to check back very soon. I will have a brand new one for you then.
