Tech Review - FIC ICE-Cube Mini Barebone System
Hello again my name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I’m looking at the FIC ICE Mini Barebone System.
What is included in this package are a number of cables, two regular ID cables a floppy cable a serial ATA cable and a serial ATA power cable. You also get an optic cable a power cable some drivers and software, a manual, a cooler some cable ties and screws and the mini computer.
This mini computer is based around the Intel 865 G plus chip set motherboard and that means that supports the Intel Pentium IV CPU with Hyper-Threading Technology at 800 megahertz from the side bus. It also supports dual channel memory up to two gigabytes ATP 8 times. It has six channel audio integrated USB 2.0, onboard LAN, onboard firewire and it also has a serial ATA hose controller.
This is a very small computer system, excellent for travel. There’s a window in each side and it’s covered in plastic on top of all of this aluminum which makes it look very neat. Now, let’s have a closer look at the front.
At the top if the 500 quarter inch drive bay 3 ½ inch drive bay. At the left is the reset button. At the very right is the power button, it also have a hard drive LAD and the power LAD. Further down is the optic in, center base as well as the rare out, line out mike USB ports, fire wire port and at the bottom are a few ventilations holes.
And now let’s have a closer look at the back. At the top is the power supply, at the right is the PCI and AGP slots and at the bottom left is where you plug in the PS2 mouse and keyboard, two firewire ports a com port, DGA, a LAN port, USB 2.0 port, a microphone line in, optical out and the headphone jack.
Also I wanted to mention here at the back, there is a non-standard fans, it’s a blower fan you can it’s quite wide and this actually helps exhaust all that hot air that’s inside the case and does it quietly. And now let’s have a closer look at the motherboard.
At the top left is the floppy IDE 1 and the two memory slots, the power connectors. Here’s where you install your socket 478 CPU. You can install a PCI card and an AGP card in the system and here is the chip set.
Despite its size, it’s very easy to install and remove hardware in this case both side panels are easily removed with the thumb screw at the back and they easily go on as well. You cans also swing this top up by loosening these two screws at the front. There’s also a tray in here which houses one internal 3 ½ as well as the 5 ¼ inch drive. You can see now you can really get in here to install or remove any hardware. And now that everything is connected, have a look and listen. As you can hear it’s very quite and looks great.
Within the advance BIOS features, you can go in here and enable things like hyper threading technology as well as the first boot, second boot, third boot devices and so on. Within the advanced chips and features you can go in here and adjust the different memory timings either by SPD or you can go manual. If you can go manual, you could of course adjust all those timings manually.
Also for the down you’ll notice that you can adjust the on chip VGA, you could enable or disable that. Enable if you want to use the onboard VGA or if you have your own video card, disable it. And further, you can see as well you can set the number of megabytes for that onboard video to use; one megabyte, eight megabytes or 16 megabytes
Within the integrated peripherals, is where you can go to, set and adjust things like the USB, the onboard audio, the onboard firewire, the onboard LAN and so on. Within the PC house fan this is where you can go to view the system temperature the CPU temperature, the fan speeds the -- as well as adjusting the CPU warning temperature and the shut down temperature.
Within the frequency voltage control area of any BIOS is using where you can go to really do some serious over clocking. Unfortunately, these BIOS does not have an option.
The size SiSoftware Sandra CPU result is 7161 the CPU multi media result is 11051 and the memory result is 4060. The PC mark 2002 results are the CPU score is 5924, the memory score is 6913 and our hard drive score is 921.
This mini computer system are a fantastic if you’re going to a LAN party, our friends place or many you want to have a really compact light weigh cool computer system in your home or office.
Overall this system really looks great it’s functional, it’s stable, also let’s fairly in expensive. However, if you are a gamer I certainly recommend with vesting a good AGP video card drop it in this system to get good 3d results.
I would like to see more over crocking options as well in bios, however consider that this is a mini system most of them in the market do not have much in the way of over clocking in the bios. But over all this is a kick as product.
Again my name is Rodney Reynolds and this has been another video review. Be sure to check back very soon I will have a brand new one for you then also pop in my website at www.3dGameMan.com and while you’re there you can go to the forums and register and remember registration is completely free.
Also keep in mind you can find them a lot more on this product in the forums, until the next time, take care.
