Tech Review - HEC Power 525 Power Supply
Hello again. My name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I'm looking at HEC Power 525 power supply. What is included in the user’s manual, a power cable, four screws and a power supply. This particular product has a wattage of 525 which is more than enough juice to power the most current systems. Now how is a wattage determined? Well to understand that, you need to know what rails are.
Rails are basically well regulated transformers which convert domestic current into the voltages that your computer system can use, and there are essentially two different rails, the 3.3/5volt rail and the 12 volt rail.
In this particular case the approximate maximum output of the 3.3/5volt rail is 230 watts and the 12 volt is approximately 295 watts which is essentially how the wattage of this power supply is determined. The 3.3/5volt rail is responsible for the motherboard, memory, PCI cards, AGP card and so on while the 12 volt rail is responsible for the hard drives, DVD, CD-ROM’s drives, fans, etcetera.
Also some might be interested to know the amps on each rail. Well, the +3.3 volt is 37 amps, the +5V is 45 amps each, and the +12 volt is 20 amps. Now let’s have a closer look at this power supply. Right here at the back is where the power cable gets connected and here is on/off switch.
There are also two fans with grills. There is one right here and one right here. Now this power supply is pretty quiet. It has automatic temperature detection so the more juice you pump through the hotter it will get and that of course will increase the speed on those fans but it’s around 27 dB and that’s about 80% load. There are plenty of leads coming out of this power supply and they are all very long and sleeved so they look very nice. Let’s go over this leads.
First of all, right here are the three main ones which go into the motherboards, 6-pin, 4-pin and 20-pin. It comes with eight standard 4-pin Molex connectors and certainly that is not really standard 2 or 4-pin fan connectors. There are also two floppy and two Serial ATA. It also comes with a Li which gets plug into your motherboard’s fan header and that is to monitor the speed of the fan inside the power supply and now have a listen to the fans in this power supply.
Please remember that when this power supply is under load the fan speed will increase so the noise level will go up a little bit. This power supply has plenty of power. It has all kinds of leads. They are long and also they are sleeved and this power supply is quiet. Overall this is a kick-ass product.
