Hello again, my name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I'm looking at the Hiper Type R Modular 580 Watt Power Supply.
Included in this package is utility box. Now it does comes shift as well in this box so a very safe shifting method plus you got this box to store all kinds of things in. Also included is a power cable, a user’s manual, all the different modular leads and the power supply.
This particular product has a continuous wattage of 580 and the peak of 630 which is amp of power for today’s most demanding computer systems. Now how it this wattage determined? Well, to understand that you need to know what rails are.
Rails are basically well regulated transformers which convert domestic current into the voltages that your computer system can use and there are essentially two different rails, the 3.3/5 volt and the 12 volt rail.
In this particular case, the approximate maximum peak output of the 3.3/5 volt rail is 280 watts and the 12 volt is 360 watts which is essentially how the wattage of this power supply is determined. The 3.3/5 volt rail is responsible for the motherboard, memory, PCI cards, AGP card and so on while the 12 volt rail is responsible for the hard drives, DVD, CD ROM, fans, etcetera.
Also some might be interested to know the peak amps on each rail. The plus 3.3 volt is 32 amps and the plus 5 volt is 36 amps. Now unlike most power supplies that only have one plus 12 volt rail, this particular unit has two. One is 20 amps and the other is 18. Now let's have a closer look at this product.
It has a high gloss titanium finish. It’s also available in a number of different colors there are two fans. Both of these are chromed and the 120 millimeter is recessed so you won't have a problem fitting this in any case, the other fans at 80 millimeter. Combined to these fans with all kinds of ventilation holes, the inside of this power supply is going to stay nice and cool.
Here is the power cable connection and the on/off switch. Since this is a modular power supply it really cuts down on all the cable mess that’s associated with a regular power supply. Now there is one lead as hardwired and that’s the main 20/24 pin lead that goes into the mother board. Now this lead can be change from 22 at 24 by snapping this piece on.
Connecting all these lead is very simple. First of all is remove this rubber caps and now just connect the leads, slip it in and then fasten it. Do this for the remaining five. All the leads on this power supply are sleeved. This makes things neat and tidy but also increases airflow inside the case. Now let's go through all of these leads.
I mentioned previously the 20/24 pin name motherboard lead, the four pin motherboard lead, here is the six pin PCI express video card connection and by the way this power supply is capable of supporting two video cards they include the adapter this is for another PCI express video card.
Now the rest of the connections here, you can trace them back to the power supply are four pin connections these go into adapters. There are ten standard more connections. Notice how these get connected, four serial ATA and one floppy. And finally have a little to the power supply.
This power supply really has it all. It has excellent power and lots of it, great looks, it’s modular and I love the way the leads connect into this power supply because there is no way that you'll accidentally disconnect them. It’s SLI ready and even comes with a utility box. Overall this is kick ass product.
