Tech Review - Nintendo Wii
Hello again. I’m Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I’m looking at the Nintendo Wii Game Console.
What’s included with the Wii is the operation’s manual, Wii sports game, audio video composite cable, sensor bar, AC power adapter, wireless Wii remote and nunchuck as well as Wii console stand and two double AA batteries.
First, let’s get the specification of the way. This gaming console comes with a 729 megahertz IBM power PC processor, 243 megahertz ATI Hollywood Graphics Processing Unit and has 512 megabytes of built-in flash memory. It supports up to 480P resolution and will work with a computer monitor as well as any TV or projector and does support 69 widescreen.
It even has built-in 80211BG Wifi. Also note that this consol is back with comparable with Game Cube and other downloadable content. Let’s have a closer look. It’s extremely small lightweight and comes in a white color and can be orientated vertically or horizontally.
At the front is the power, reset and eject buttons. Here is the slot loading disk drive which is compatible with 12 centimeter Wii DVD 4.7 gigabyte single layer or 8.5 gigabytes dual layer discs 8 centimeter game cube optical disc.
There is also a small door which opens to reveal a sink button and a secure digital slot. Note that this store can be easily removed. On the left side are four soft rubber feet. This is for positioning the unit horizontally. At the top is a place to insert four game cube controllers and two game cube memory slots.
Also note that these flip open doors can be easily removed. At the back are two USB ports, the ventilation holes to allow the inside fan to exhaust warm air of sensor bar connection, an audio video connection and the power connection. At the bottom our 4 soft rubber feet for positioning the unit for the click and ventilation holes to allow the inside fan to intake cool air. Now let’s have a closer look at the wireless Wii remote.
Here is the pointer, power button, control pad, A-button, home button, minus button, plus button, speaker, one button , two button and player LAD’s which indicate what player the remote is set up for. At the back is the B-button and the battery compartment which accepts two double A batteries.
Here is the sync button which is use when synchronizing the Wii remote with the console. The Wii remote wrist strap is attached at the bottom. Note that it’s very important to wear the strap correctly. Also at the bottom is an external extension connector. This allows connection of external accessories such as the nunchuck.
Now let’s have a closer look at the nunchuck. Here is the control stick, C-button and set button. When the Wii is powered up you’ll see a health and a safety warning. You should read the operations manual thoroughly before using a product. The first thing that’s required is to set up the console correctly. Give the console a nickname and you can do this very easily with the provided keyword, set the date and time, you have a number of different screen options, screen position, widescreen settings, TV resolution and screen burn in reduction.
There are also numbers of sound options mono, stereo or surround. There are parental controls. The sensor bar which you can position above the television or below the TV and you can also adjust the sensitivity. Internet in this area you can configure your internet setup and also the Wii connect 24. This is your stand by options. Also set the language, the country, the Wii system update is another important thing. This is one of the first things you should also do when you turn on the system. You can also format the Wii system memory.
Within the Wii menu is a number of different channels and more can be added. At the top left hand corner is the disc channel. This is where the Wii or Game Cube games would be launched from. The Mii channel is where you go to create an avatar of yourself and of your friends, people who are playing with you a lot.
In here I have created four avatars, one of myself, my wife Sherry, our two friends Ed and Cristina. Now if I want to edit any of these I can just grab a hold and drag them to the edit me. The number of different options here, you got a nickname, the gender favorite color etcetera. You could just hide and with face to here. The eyebrows, the eyes and nose, the lips and facial things like beards, glottis, glasses etcetera. The photo channel is where you can go to view or edit or just have fun with the photographs that you would enter on the SD-Card which insert in the font of the game console.
The other option is you can view, leave message for photos. The Wii shop channel is where new added channels and video games can be downloaded. Buying a game online is done through a point system. Points can be purchased at a local computer store and redeemed the Wii shop channel. The forecast channel enables weather reports and forecasts to be downloaded from the internet.
The news channel allows the latest news headlines and current events to be obtained from the internet. I also added an internet channel so browsing the internet is possible through the Wii. The Wii sport game that’s included is a blast to play especially with two or more players. Wii sports with excellent training to familiarize yourself with the Wii remote and non-jack. It includes tennis, baseball, bowling, golf and boxing.
Let me start up tennis to give you a better idea on how this game works. You can select the number of players and also you’ll see the remotes that are connected now on the right hand side. I currently just to have one remote and that’s my own. I’m not playing it with anybody else. So I will select Players one and this is the number of avatars that I have created for this and I’m going to select myself. That also gives you a warning here, make sure there are no people or objects around you that you might bump into while playing.
Okay so let’s give this a try. Start the game, a single game. Now notice where the way that this is certainly not next generation graphics but it’s a lot of fun. First of all I’ll go ahead and use the Wii remote and remember this is wireless so I can swing this around but again be very careful.
I’ll launch the ball here by pressing B swing to hit the ball. Oh, I just got it. Okay look at that. As you can see this is a lot of fun. This game console is clearly not about the high definition graphics but rather about the game play getting you into the game. This is a tremendous amount of fun especially with two or more players. Its something you really have to experience too appreciates.
This console is very well priced, almost half of what the competition is. Overall, this is a kick ass product.
