Tech Review - Plextor ConvertX Personal Video Recorder
Hello again. My name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I’m looking at the Plextor ConvertX personal video recorder. Included is software and drivers and installation and user’s manual and S-video, composite video and audio cable as well as USB 2.0 cable, a power adopter and a personal video recorder.
This product allows you to connect to satellite TV, cable TV or broadcast TV signal and record programs right to your PC. You could then watch the video from the PC or burn it to DVD for playback on a DVD player. You can also connect a camcorder VCR or DVD player right in this unit to record home videos to the PC.
Now the heart of this PVR is its multi-format in coded chip which converts video to different formats like DiVX, MPEG4, MPEG2, and MPEG1 as it’s being recorded to the PC. Now this is the world’s first DiVX certified PVR and that allows you to record up to 3 times as much video as normal without sacrificing quality.
At the front of unit there are a number of connections, audio, composites and S-video. Also ready to record and power LED’s. At the back unit this is where you would connect the RF input from the antenna or the coaxial cable, the USB 2.0 cable would go from here into the PC and to the very right is where the power adapter gets connected.
In order to get this product to work, you’ll need to pop in the included CD and install the device driver for you particular operating system. You can also view the installation, user manual right off the CD and of course you can register the product.
Now there are number of very powerful software programs that are free and included WinDVD R5i is one of the free ones. This lets your PC function as a digital video recorder. You can watch pause and record live TV, schedule to record programs when you are away or burn the programs to a VCD, Video CD or DVD and the other free program that’s included is WinDVD Creator. This is an integrated program that walks you through video capture, editing and special transitions and effects including title, menus or music and finally burning the finished product as a DVD, VCD, Mini-DVD, AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 or WMV video and a 15-day free trial of Sage TV is included.
This is a very powerful program that allows you to view all the details about the programs that you can either receive or are available in your particular area. Not only that though this program allows you to playback, pause, record, and schedule TV programs but you can also do much more.
They also include Adobe Acrobat Reader. This product looks great has a quality TV tuner. You can connect all kinds of devices into it. It’s easy to install. It comes with lots of software and is affordable.
Overall this is a kick-ass product. Again my name is Rodney Reynolds. This has been another video review, be sure to check back very soon. I will have a brand new one for you then.
