Tech Review - SilverStone SG03 SFF Case
Hello again. I’m Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I’m looking at the SilverStone SG03 Small Form Factor Case.
At first glance, this case looks like a compact mid-tower case but it’s actually smaller. What it doesn’t look like a typical small form factor case, it falls into the same category. Small form factor cases are typically used for Local Area Network parties since they are so transportable. This case is available in black and silver and it’s constructed from a lightweight aluminum.
At the front there is one external 5.25-inch drive bay and one external 3.25 inch drive bay. Here is the Firewire port, microphone, headphone jack and two USB port. At the right there is a reset button, power and hard drive activity LEDs. This large mesh provides excellent ventilation and can be easily removed.
It includes one 120 millimeter fan that intakes cool air inside the case. This 120 millimeter fan can be repositioned for custom cooling or two 120 millimeter fans can be installed for maximum cooling. This front panel even has two dust filters, one at the top and one at the bottom.
The left side panel has lots of ventilation and at the top there’s a power button. At the back of the case is where the I/O shield plate and power supply gets installed. There are four expansion slots with ventilated PCI brackets and there’s even more ventilation all over the back of the case. They also include two thumbscrews on each side panel
This case fits micro ATX form factor motherboards. The external 3.5-inch drive bay can be removed to allow for easy access to the inside of the case which is good because this case doesn’t have a removable motherboard tray.
Installation of a power supply in this case is quite unique because it can be installed in the upright position so the power supply’s fan is facing out or in the reversed side position where the power supplies fan is facing in.
Please note that this case accepts 10.5inch video cards. So when any video SLI or ATI crossfire video card set up is possible. Please note that the SilverStone NTO6 CPU cooler is recommended in this case because of its dimension and cooling performance. This case also has two removable 3.5-inch driver bays which are at the bottom of the case.
Installing a hard drive is simple. First remove the hard drive bracket, mount the rails on each side of the hard drive. Slip the hard drive into the drive bay and secure it into the case. At the bottom are soft rubber feet which have excellent anti-vibration properties and won’t scratch the surface. Finally have a listen to the stock cooling.
This is one of the very best small form factor cases on the market and the reason being is you can fit this about everything you need inside of here with, very few restrictions and that includes the full size current video cards like the Nvidea 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra cards and of course you have no problem fitting the ATI 2900 XT card in here as well. This also has fantastic air circulation. It’s aluminum so its very light weight and the build quality and the look is fantastic.
Now I would have like of seen maybe one or two fans at the top of the case for additional cooling. But other than that, this is a 100% kick ass product.
