Tech Review - Smooth Creations LanShark Gaming Rig
Hello again, I’m Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today I'm looking at the Smooth Creations LanShark Gaming Rig. Smooth Creation is based in Oregon and what sets them apart from many other companies is their custom monNet PC’s. What really separates them though is their costumed art work, the painting process starts off with gathering the art for their custom line or clients can send in their own art or colors that they would like on their own systems. Also, the team of air brushers can dream up their own. All painting is performed in a climate controlled spray booth and equip with fresh air. The case panels have to be perfectly prep and clean so on imperfections are on the surface of the panel’s base codes and candy paints are applied with great detail on cleanliness.
Most airbrush art takes about 15 hours to complete and you really have to see the quality of the work to appreciate how excellent it is. Their PC’s are really designed for gamers, who might have the time to fully research the latest advancements in computer hardware. Smooth, creations selects the processor, motherboard, power supply and cooling options for the consumer to provide the highest performance to price ration possible. Also the consumer may choose their own video cards, memory, sound cards, optical disk drives and other operates. Every smooth creation, gaming PC has a lifetime warranty on the paint, they have one-year warranty covering the parts they were shipping, and the system can be upgraded within three years.
Also, if a consumer receives system damage in the shipping or has a failure within the first 30 days they will send a replacement in the next three days. They currently have four computers build categories, notebooks, desktops, LanSharks and extreme machines. Each of this are available in a number of different configurations, I will be reviewing a LanShark System. Fully equip computer systems can be very heavy and therefore they are prone to damage during shipment, especially fully loaded acrylic cases. This is one of the reasons why they shift this computer in a costumed wooden box. There was no external damage to the system but one of the Serial ATA cables pulled out causing damage to the motherboard Serial ATA connector. This appears to be shipping damage an is not uncommon for this systems.
I would recommend when purchasing a product like this to inspect it thoroughly and if there is a problem contact the company immediately. For this LanShark build Smooth Creations went with the danger den tower 16 micro ATX acrylic cases. These make sense because of their costumed paint jobs and its small compact size for a LAN Parties. Now, let’s have a closer look at this fantastic paint job. They airbrushed their art work on the top panel, front panel, left side panel, right side panel, and even on the back panel. The paint job is truly outstanding. And note how the paint is sprayed from the inside, so there’s no fear of scratching it on the outside. At the front are an optical disk drive, power button, LanShark logo, and two 120-millimeter intake fans. Note though that there are no dust filters on this fans, you can find their logo on the left side panel and the right side panel.
At the back of the case you’ll find the power supply and in the motherboard I/O area is a number of motherboard connections. PS2 keyboards, PS2 mouse, optical S/PDIF, Coaxial S/PDIF, as well as a clear CMOS jumper, six USB 2 ports, LAN port, and eight channel audio, here’s the video cards two DVI connections and component out connections. The left side that can be taken off by removing four screws, the inside of the case is really neat and tidy. This is because they’ve organized the cables, tucking them out of the way, this stuff only looks fantastic but increases air flow inside the case. Also note that they air brushed the CoolIT Pure liquid cooler which is a nice touch and really completes the look.
Additionally the bottom panel is air brushed with their art work from the outside. As it’s the only panel that’s spray painted from the outside and the reason why they did this is it looks better paint from the outside than on the inside because of course it’s at a bottom of the case. So when you look inside of the case, you’ll see this fantastic art work. At the bottom are four soft rubber feet, which have excellent anti-vibration properties and won’t scratch the surface. Finally, have a listen to the computer system.
Prebuilt systems are definitely not for everybody, if you have a lot of experience building computer systems you probably just do it yourself and to save some money but if you don’t have the time and or experience than theirs is a perfect option. Now, were smooth creations differs from a lot of companies selling prebuilt system is their custom air brushing and it’s simply, fantastic. Now, you can get all kinds of case wraps to go around your case and look fairly good but nothing will come close to this kind of professional air brushing that Smooth Creation, does. And you’ll really need to see the case first hand to appreciate how great the job is that they do. Overall this system performs really well. Now, considering the fact that this is a micro ATX motherboards so that’s a little limiting in itself and remember you can get this system in any configuration, you just tell them what you want and they will build it for you. Overall, this is a kick ass product, until the next time take care.
