SteelSeries SteelSound Headsets
Hello again, I’m Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I’m looking at the SteelSeries SteelSound 3H and 4H Headsets.
In the past I’ve reviewed two version of the SteelSound 5H headset, but today I’m looking at the more affordable 3H and 4H models.
Before I have a closer look at the 3H headset let’s get the technical specifications out of the way first. The headset has a frequency response of 10 to 27,000 hertz, an impedance of 50 Ohms and a sound pressure level of 102 decibels.
The microphone has a frequency response of 50 to 18,000 hertz. The pick up pattern is non-directional, the sensitivity is a -40 decibels and the impedance is 2.2000 Ohms. This headset is smaller and more compact than most. It has a long cord with the microphone and headphone jack. The mid-size ear caps are lightly cushioned with imitation leather, but they do not rotate, and there is a retractable microphone in the left ear cap.
The adjustable headband is vital, but they don’t have any cushioning on it. Even though this headset is small it should fit most heads. This headset distinguishes itself from many others since it’s collapsible. This makes it very easy to transport so it’s well suited for land parties.
The headphones have a frequency response of 16 to 28,000 hertz and impedance of 40 Ohms and a sound pressure level of 110 decibels. The microphone has a frequency response of 75 to 16,000 hertz, the pick up pattern is unidirectional, the sensitivity is a -38 decibels and the impedance is 2000 Ohms.
Unlike the more expensive 5H headset this headset was developed and optimized for in games sound frequencies which make in game sounds like Footprints, Alerts and Gunfire especially clear.
This is a definite advantage if you are into gaming because you’ll be able to hear and pinpoint the location of your opponents. This headset has a long cord with the microphone and headphone jack. There’s also a handy in line microphone and a volume control. The mike can be adjusted to high, low or turn off.
The headphone volume can be adjusted and there’s a metal clip for attaching it to your shirt or pants for quick access. The full sized ears caps are heavily cushioned with felt clothe and rotate for added comfort. The adjustable headband is padded making it comfortable to wear for extended periods. There’s also a retractable microphone in the left ear cap.
Both of these products offer great buying for the buck. The 3H headset though is really targeted at the budget market or maybe you have a very expensive headset already and you want to have something inexpensive that you can carry to land parties and you don’t have to worry about it getting stolen or lost.
The 4H has better sound quality than the 3H but you can fold it up and you also cannot take it apart like the 5H, but it’s in between the 3H and the 5H, again, in both performance and costs. To these products the 3H and the 4H are great.
