Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB Hard Drive
Hello again. I’m Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I‘m looking at the Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 2.5-inch hard drive. The Western Digital Scorpio Black lines of 2.5-inch serial ATA hard drives are currently available in five different sizes ranging from 80GB all the way up to 320GB. They also are available with or without free fall sensor. I’m reviewing the 320GB WD3200BJKT model. Before I continue, let’s go over what to consider and look for when selecting a 2.5-inch hard drive. There are five main features to consider when selecting a 2.5-inch hard drive. Interface, rotation speed, buffer size, access seek time and capacity.
There are two interface types IDE and serial ATA. It’s like the hard drive with serial ATA 2 interface if your computer supports it since it’s a newest technology. The rotation speed should be 5400 RPM’s or greater, the buffer size should be 8MB or greater and the average seek time should be less than 50 milliseconds. Also get a hard drive that best suits your storage needs. This hard drives interface is serial ATA, 3GB per second has a capacity of 320 GB. The rotation speed is 7200 RPM’s, a 16MB buffer size, power consumption is 2.5watts while being access and 0.85 watts when idle. The noise level is 22 decibels to 25 decibels and comes with a 5-year warranty.
Now let me outline some of the key technologies of these products. Secure part, parts of the recording heads of the disk surface during spin-offs, spin down and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting and improved long term reliability due to less head wear and improved shock tolerance.
Shock guard technology protects the drive mechanics and flatter surfaces from shocks during shipping and handling and in daily operation. There is a free fall sensor on a BJKT models for an added layer protection. So if the drive or the system it’s in is dropped while in use Western Digital free fall sensor detects that the drive is falling and the less than 200 milliseconds parks the head to help prevent damage and daily loss. Western drive combines state of the art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market. Let’s have a closer look at this hard drive.
Here is the serial ATA power connection, Serial ATA data connection and the jumpers. On the left side, right side and the bottom are screw holes for mounting the hard drive. At the top of the hard drive is the model number, serial number, manufacturing date and more information.
2.5-inch serial ATA hard dives are generally use for notebooks and sometimes small form factor PC’s. This particular hard drive has excellent performance results and capacity. The only thing better than this is would be a solid state drive. Overall this is a kick-ass product. Until next time, take care.
