Tech Review - iMON Universal IR Remote Control
Hello again, my name is Rodney Reynolds and welcome to another video review. Today, I’m looking at the iMON Universal Infrared Remote Control. What is included in this package is a USB infrared receiver, a stand and some double-sided tape. Now, this double-sided tape get stock onto the stand then you can put the stand just about anywhere then you place the infrared receiver into the stand. Also, included are two triple “A” batteries, an installation guide, iMON software and a remote control.
Now let’s have a closer look at the remote control. At the very top we’ve got an application button. This will close the active foreground application. The same with the keyboards shortcut Alt F4, the power off button will turn off the PC but this button if you press for a longer than one second to turn off the PC.
Screensaver button will run the screensaver if the systems screensaver is assigned and the turn on button will run timer setup screen to turn off the PC or to set the alarm in the certain time assigned by the timer setup and the number fair enough.
Farther down we have a desktop button, this will toggle, show desktop, restore all and as well as the max restore button which will toggle maximize window which store to previous size.
The escape button has the same function as the keyboard escape key. The menu button will display pop up menu. The window logo button has the same function as the keyboard Window logo P. The application launcher button will run the iMON application launcher.
The barricade button will run all time control window selector and the task switcher button will run the iMON task switcher and it has the same function as a keyboard short cut Alt-Tab.
At the center of the remote control is the backspace button. This has the same function as the keyboard backspace key. The mouse keyboard button will toggle the joystick operation known as the iMON RSC. The space button has the same function as the keyboard space bar key. The shift tab button has the same functions as the keyboard shortcut Shift tab. The tab button has the same function as the keyboard’s tab key.
The left click has the same function as the left click of the mouse. The drag and drop has the same function as the drag and drop function of a mouse. The right click button has the same function as the right click of the mouse and the joystick is in the middle and just below that you have the mute button of volume increase and decrease button.
Most of the buttons at the bottom are pretty self-explanatory. You have the play, pause, open now this button will run the open file dialog window in the multimedia application. You have the previous, the next, stop, rewind, fast forward, button and finally the full screen button. Now this button will make full screen mode in the multimedia application.
The installation of this product is very simple. First of all, insert the two triple “A” batteries into the remote control. Next install the iMON software and when you’re installing this software you’ll be ask here which remote control you have and in my case I have the iMON RSC, select it and then click OK.
Next, insert the infrared receiver into your computer’s USB port and when everything else is installed you can go then to into the iMON manager and change a number of different options. You’ve got common options, mouse options, keyboard, timer, screen resolution and virtual keyboard, and you also need to go and then set up different commands for programs, Windows commands. You’ve also create custom commands, macros, etcetera.
Now, I’m going to start using this right now so you can see how responsive it is. You see the cursor moving around there on the screen as I move the joystick around and also if you push that joystick down it’s the same as left clicking on your mouse and as you use this remote control you can see here in the infrared receiver there’s a little light indicating that it is in use.
Now, I’m going to launch a program I’ve already got running here. I’m using the remote control here to do this and remember this can be used for more than just playing DVDs or what not. It’s basically a keyboard and mouse replacement but something like this would be excellent to have on a home theater PC.
This product is very easy to install and use. The buttons are very well laid out and also I love this joystick here at the very center of the remote control. It’s also really affordable. Overall, this is a kick-ass product.
