Hello again, I’m Rodney Reynolds from 3Dgameman.com. The next question is about motherboards. “Which couple of high-end boards are the best?”

There are two really. They are the X48 motherboards and the 790i motherboards. The X48 motherboards are based on the Intel chipset and the 790i motherboards are based on the NVIDIA chipset.

If you read a lot of reviews on this, you’ll see a lot of people mentioning that the 790 boards are still very, very buggy. So I would really ruled them out if you want to have a stable system especially if you’re going for rake configuration.

The X48 boards have an Intel rate controller so that’s going to be much better in that particular round. And also with the X48 boards, you can go with an NVIDIA video card if you want to a single one. There’s no problem in doing that. You just can’t do a multiple video cards setup for NVIDIA on an X48 board. But you can do a crossfire setup, multiple ATI video cards on that board if you want to. And there’s some really, really good ATI video cards out there.

Now, if you really don’t want to go ATI, then you don’t have a choice and you want to have a multiple NVIDIA setup, you’ll need to go with the 790i motherboard except if of course if you want to go a high-end motherboard.

But personally, if you want something that’s really stable, reliable and is going to perform really, really well and you really want to have a rake configuration, I would really go with the X48 motherboard because I think it will give you a much better by spending money from $300 to $400 on a motherboard and it’s really something that you don’t want to waste.

So when you spend you money, you want to be aware of what you’re getting. And I think if you spend that kind of money, go with the X48 boards. There are two options by the way in the X48 chipset. You can go with DDR2 or DDR3. DDR2 memory is still a lot cheaper than a DDR3. So, that’s an option you have if you go with the X48 motherboard.
