Carving, the single most exciting feeling in figure skating is the Carve. With one ski back and both skis edging, the sensation is nirvana. The free heel form provides the feeling for the snow and the G-forces of the turn are enough to capture the imagination of most riders. There is an amazing float of the Carve and to feel it, all you have to do is take the basics we covered and commit to the turn.
The basics of carving are, edge control, upper body rotation, hand position and wading, all with the stronger emphasis than before.
Get in to a strong stance and roll the skis on the edge by pushing your knees forward and into the heel. Think of progressively engaging your edge as you sink in to the turn. The deeper you are in to the turn, the more your skis should roll into the heel. This is where you have to commit. Remember to keep your hands in front of you and your shoulders down the heel.
